Car Insurance in Fort Worth

Fort Worth had 15,680 reported crashes in 2025, and 112 people died on its roads. Most of those crashes, 9,533, involved no injuries. The rest sent people to doctors, emergency rooms, and worse. When that happens, the question is who pays: your insurer, the other driver's, or you. Here's how Texas rules work in Fort Worth, and the coverage worth keeping. What Texas requires, and why it may not be enough

The Texas minimum is 30/60/25:

  • $30,000 for each person you injure
  • $60,000 for everyone you injure in one crash
  • $25,000 for property damage

Those limits protect other people from you. They don't fix your car or pay your medical bills. Three coverages do that, and two of them come on Texas policies by default:

  • Personal injury protection (PIP): at least $2,500 for medical bills and lost income, no matter who caused the crash. Included unless you reject it in writing.
  • Uninsured motorist coverage: pays when the at-fault driver has no insurance, or not enough. Included unless you reject it in writing. About 14.5% of Texas drivers were uninsured in 2023.
  • Collision: optional, but it's what fixes your car after a crash, whoever caused it.

If a crash with serious injuries is your fault, $30,000 per person may not cover it. Anything above your limit can come back to you. Ask what 100/300/100 costs.

Pickup trucks and theft

The Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington area had 21,638 vehicle thefts in 2025, the 6th most of any U.S. metro. Pickups are prime targets: the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and Ford F150 were both among the 10 most stolen vehicles in the country.

Comprehensive coverage pays if your truck is stolen. If you own a pickup outright, make sure you didn't drop comprehensive to save money.

To lower your risk:

  • Lock it and take the keys, even in your driveway.
  • Park in well-lit areas or a garage.
  • Consider a GPS tracker or kill switch, and ask whether it earns a discount.
  • Don't leave tools or valuables visible in the bed or cab.

Hail season

North Texas hailstorms can dent roofs and hoods across a neighborhood in minutes. Only comprehensive pays for hail damage to your car. A higher comprehensive deductible lowers your price, but you pay more when hail hits. Pick a number you could cover.

Paying less in Fort Worth without losing protection

Truck owners especially should read the fine print on a bargain quote. If the savings come from dropping comprehensive, a single theft or hailstorm wipes them out. Better ways to cut the price: ask about discounts for a tracker or kill switch, insure your home and vehicles with one company, and keep a clean record. The Texas Department of Insurance's HelpInsure.com site lets you check sample rates and complaint records before you choose.
