What affects your plumbing price
Price range
A typical plumbing repair costs about $182 to $501. Many plumbers also charge a service call fee of about $150 to $250 just to come out. Not a quote or an offer. Your price comes from the plumber. Source: Angi, 2026.
What moves the number
- The job. Fixing a drip is cheap. Replacing a water heater or a sewer line is not.
- When you call. Nights, weekends and holidays cost more.
- How they charge. Some charge by the hour. Others give a flat price for the job.
- Getting to the problem. Pipes behind walls or under slabs take more work.
- Parts. Some plumbers mark up parts.
What to ask before you choose
- "Is there a service call fee, and does it count toward the repair?"
- "Do you charge by the hour or a flat price?" A flat price means no surprises if the job runs long.
- "Can you give me the price before you start?"
- "Are you licensed?" Most states license plumbers. Ask for the number.
- "Do you guarantee the work?" Ask for how long.
Before you need a plumber: find your main water shutoff valve today. It's often where the water line enters your house, or near the water heater. In a leak, turning it off fast can save thousands in damage.
