What affects your window price

Price range

A typical window replacement costs $3,436 to $11,837. The average is about $7,347. Not a quote or an offer. Your price comes from the installer. Source: Angi, 2026.

What moves the number

  • How many windows. Most quotes are for a group of windows. The more you do, the more you pay in total. But the price per window often drops.
  • Frame material. Vinyl costs the least and needs little care. Wood looks great but needs paint. Fiberglass is strong and costs more.
  • Style and size. Big picture windows, bay windows and odd shapes cost more than standard ones.
  • Glass. Two or three panes, special coatings and gas between the panes all help with heat and cold. They also add cost.
  • Damage around the window. Rotten wood around the frame has to be fixed first.

What to ask before you choose

  • "Is this an insert or a full-frame replacement?" An insert fits inside your old frame and costs less. Full-frame replaces everything. It's the better fix if the old frame is rotten.
  • "What is the U-factor?" It shows how well the window keeps heat in. Lower is better. Compare it across quotes.
  • "What does the warranty cover?" Ask about the glass, the frame and the installation. Also ask if it transfers to a new owner.
  • "Is cleanup and hauling away the old windows included?"
  • "How long will the install take, and will you seal and trim the inside and outside?"

The catch: watch out for sales pitches that say "today only" or give a big discount if you sign right now. A fair price will still be fair tomorrow. Take the quote home and compare.
