The short answer

A walk-in tub costs about $4,000 to $18,000 installed. The tub's features and the work to put it in matter most.

What affects your walk-in tub price

Price range

A standard walk-in tub costs about $4,000 to $18,000 with installation. Not a quote or an offer. Your price comes from the installer. Source: HomeGuide (data updated 2025).

What moves the number

  • Features. Jets, heated seats and quick-drain systems add cost.
  • Size. Bigger tubs cost more and need more hot water.
  • Your bathroom. Changes to plumbing, walls or floors add cost.
  • Water heater. Some walk-in tubs need a bigger water heater.

What to ask before you choose

  • "How long does it take to fill and drain?" You have to sit in the tub while it fills and drains, since the door has to stay shut.
  • "Is my water heater big enough?"
  • "Does the price include removing my old tub and fixing the walls and floor?"
  • "What does the warranty cover: the tub, the door seal, and the install?"
  • "Would a walk-in shower work better for me?" It's often cheaper and easier to get in and out of.

The catch: walk-in tubs are often sold in the home with a lot of pressure. Take your time and get more than one price. If you do sign at home, the FTC's Cooling-Off Rule usually gives you 3 days to cancel. Also know that Original Medicare usually doesn't pay for walk-in tubs.
